Another social media blog from me, but I can’t go wrong with this entry since it involves a popular rock band and marketing all in one.
Two years ago I took a roadtrip to Columbus Ohio to check out a Collective Soul & Better Than Ezra concert. The concert was amazing and since then I’ve been a big fan, which is why I was beyond thrilled when I stumbled upon @Collective_soul on Twitter.
Last week while scrolling through my feeds I noticed @Collective_soul posted a Twitter/Blogging contest to their status. The contest rules state to be creative and tell people about Collective Soul: how you feel them, their social media interaction, how their music effects you or anything else. You also have to add in several links back to their sites. Essentially, what I am writing right now counts as a submission. For contest and prize details check out: http://openpresswire.com/celebrity/a-celebrity-that-gets-social-media-i-know-shocking/. I wanted to share this because I think it’s a great case study about the effectiveness of a social media contest.
Collective Soul has the reputation for following all their followers, answering messages sent to them and retweeting posts from their followers. Richard Eldredge of Peachbuzz.com interviewed Dean Roland who stated, “We’re using Twitter as an extension of how we’ve always interacted with fans. After a show…if there are fans waiting, we’re going to talk to them…when Twitter came along, it was just another great tool for us to stay connected.” Webaddict also writes on openpresswire.com “They still treat every one of their fans as a person.” While I don’t think that should be a shock, it tends to be sometimes forgotten online today by many brands.
According to my calculation, from strolling through their twitter feed, they have 64 people entered into their contest in the last week. Not a bad way to get you fans to spread your word. This is allowing them the reach beyond their usual fan base. A couple weeks ago I wrote a blog on top five reasons businesses/brands/people should be on twitter and Collective Soul is completing all of these: reach, spreading your message, listening and engaging. So props to Collective Soul for using social media to its full potential!
